Berry Public School joins in celebrating NAIDOC Week 2021. The theme this year is 'Heal Country’. On Friday the 23/7/21 Berry Public School students will participate in meaningful activities that celebrate the history, culture, and achievements of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples. Students will be divided into Stage groups:
Early Stage 1/ Stage 1: NAIDOC workshop rotations.
Stage 2: Traditional First Nations art.
Stage 3: Traditional outdoors skills.
Children can dress up in mufti, either in NAIDOC flag colours or for Early Stage 1/Stage 1, colours that represent the animal of their rotation group. Students will be told which animal group they are in this week. Each group is named after an Australian animal and listed in the Dharawal name:
Waluba-Wallaby
Jungaa-Octopus
Burra-Eel
Burumin-Possum
Djubi-Sugar Glider
Malya-Python
Thank you. We look forward to these exciting celebrations and paying our respects to the traditional custodians of our land, the Wodi Wodi people of the Dharawal Nation.
