This year Berry Public School entered two teams in the Premier’s Debating Challenge; a Year 6 team and a Year 5 team. The teams met for weekly coaching sessions with Mrs Crilley and Miss Henning to sharpen their skills in reasoning, persuasive arguing, and structuring a debate. Due to the challenges that COVID presented this year, the Premier’s Debating Challenge had to run a little differently to usual, and meant that we debated against the schools in our zone via Zoom. Our two debating teams competed against Culburra and Gerringong Public Schools, with very close results!
Our Year 6 Superstars team were a strong force to be reckoned with, and finished the round robin debates as the Zone Champions. This meant that we competed in the state-wide knockout finals’ series in Term 4 against Leura Public School, but unfortunately did not come away with a win. We are very proud of our amazing debating teams, and are excited to see their progress in 2021!
