Parents, carers and the community

As a parent or carer, you are an important part of our school community. We offer a range of services to support you and your family.

Parents and Citizens’ Association (P&C)

Our Parents and Citizens’ Association (P&C) is made up of parents and carers, teachers and community members. The P&C meets regularly to contribute to decision-making, developing policies and management plans as well as fundraising.

We have an extremely active P&C that plays a major role in the school. The P&C is engaged in relevant school issues and changes through collaboration with the principal on a regular basis. This process is valued by the P&C as a key strength in the relationship between parents and the school.

Fundraising

The P&C raises a considerable amount of money each year through a range of fundraising events. In 2013 we published a cookbook called 'Our Berry Kitchen' which has been hugely successful. If you would like further cookbook information or to buy a copy, please see the Our Berry Kitchen cookbook website.

The success of our fundraising is largely due to volunteer work from the parent body of the school along with much support from the wider Berry community.

The money we raise has been used to enrich and support the school in a variety of ways including supporting teacher’s aides and enrichment programs, air conditioning and interactive whiteboards for every classroom and playground upgrades. The fundraising efforts of our P&C fully funded our library extension and refurbishment and the work was completed in 2018.

Meetings

P&C meetings are held twice a term at 6.30pm in the school library, typically in Weeks 4 and 8, and dates are published in the school bulletin in advance. The school principal, P&C executive and parents attend, along with the occasional guest speaker in an inclusive environment – all ideas, comments or concerns are welcomed, along with new attendees. Membership (not compulsory, but enables voting rights) costs 50 cents per annum.

Interpreting and translations

We will help you communicate with our school. If you’d like an interpreter for a school meeting, let us know and we will arrange one, if available.

If you don’t speak or understand English well and want to contact us, call TIS National on 131 450 and ask for an interpreter in your language. The operator will call the school and get an interpreter to help. This service is free.

For more information, listen in your language.

Visit the department’s translated documents section for important information that’s relevant for your child’s education in many languages.
