What's happening in stage 3?

Stage 3 Term 4 2021 report

We came back to school on the 25th of October after lockdown and everything went back to normal. We were able to see our friends again and not all the work was on a computer. Everyone was excited to see their friends and leave their homes and family, however when your relaxed at home in your pyjamas and then you come back to school, going straight back into hard work and assessments it can get a bit overwhelming.

One of the first activities we completed on our return was the Well Being Day which was fun. We played outside games in the morning session, had a picnic with our friends in Mark Radium Park and made pom-poms in the afternoon. It was a good way to return and for all of year 5 and 6 to have a get together again.

The first weeks had some challenges too. The teachers had saved up some assessments for us to complete. With the department Checkin Assessments in Maths and English, the Dalwood Spelling Assessment, and completing the Star Reader in our Accelerated Reader program. This was designed to make sure no one had fallen behind and we could get back up to speed quickly.

Dance has started up again with Miss Caitlin on Wednesday. Our teacher is great in giving us tips on how we can improve our dancing. Here are two views on what dancing is like!

Being back at school has meant that Stage 3 can continue their passion of dance. So far in dance we have been learning many new steps and partner dancing for the very first time to get ready for the year 6 farewell which is on the 13th of December.

Recently, the teachers have set us up with a traumatising experience called partner dancing. Normal dancing was bad enough for some of us. Plus, to make it even worse we must do partner dancing with girls!

The Year 5 have started the process of captain selection for 2022. In Week 6 the Year 5 talked about the qualities needed to be a captain and nominations were put forward. The nominations then must do a short speech in front of their Year 5 peers. They then vote to reduce the number down to the final ten students who will be able to run for Berry School Captains. When their names are announced they will have till week 8 to prepare a speech and present it. The school will then vote, and the four captains will be announced in the Presentation Assemblies at the end of the year.

As a special treat every Wednesday afternoon Stage 3 have been able to join a club. They have chosen from six activities woodwork, sport, bike riding, tennis, indoor games, and art. The groups have sixteen students, and we are looking forward to being part of this in the second half of this term.

To say a special thanks to our Kindergarten buddies Year 5 and 6 have been preparing a top-secret buddy book to make them a very special and personal present. We created a survey for them to complete and this will help us to make the books more meaningful to them.

For Stage 3 and especially Year 6 the term is really moving along fast. There will be high school transitions, picnic days and farewells before 2021 concludes on the 16th of December.
